Armored Vehicle Maintenance and Driving: What to Know

An armored vehicle may look standard from the outside, but it carries an extra half tonne and some of its parts are special components an ordinary workshop does not recognise. Proper maintenance protects both safety and the vehicle's lifespan.

Brakes, tyres and suspension

The extra weight loads these three systems most. Have brake pads and discs checked more often than on a standard car. Tyres should have a high load index and, where possible, be run-flat; check pressures monthly. The reinforced suspension's bushings and dampers should be inspected every 20,000 km.

Bullet-resistant glass

Multi-layer glass is heavy and the window motors are specially reinforced. Fully opening and closing the windows frequently wears the mechanism. If you notice whitening or delamination at the edges, contact the workshop; it can affect ballistic performance. Clean only with cleaners made for glass.

Driving dynamics

With a higher mass and centre of gravity, braking distances grow and the car responds later in corners. Leave a longer following distance in the first weeks and avoid sudden manoeuvres. We recommend a short adaptation training for drivers.

Periodic inspection

Once a year, have a full inspection at the facility that armored the vehicle: panel joints, door hinges, glass seals and locking systems are reviewed. At İsso Armor this inspection is included under warranty for every vehicle we armor.
